Senior Quantity Surveyor

Overview

Location: Reading – Theale

 

Working at our office based in Theale with over 100 employees covering a multitude of different disciplines, you will work on prestigious projects from large industrial, education and residential schemes with contract values over £100 million to smaller schemes. You will also work with interesting clients including health trusts, housing providers, government and defence, local authorities, schools/universities, contractors, developers etc.

 

About the Role:

You will be responsible for providing commercial advice on costs involved in building projects - site preparation, construction, labour, material and plant costs, fitting out costs, professional charges, taxes and likely running costs of new buildings.

 

This role is in a busy, ambitious but friendly team of 15, which has a good order book of work ahead for the next few years and one in which, is constantly working towards improving and exceeding our targets every year.The role will require you to be the key point of contact with our prestigious clients, therefore a high level of communication skills and commercial awareness are essential for being successful in this role.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate costs and advise on alternative proposals
  • Provide advice on contract arrangements and conditions under which built elements will be constructed
  • Advise architects and engineers on the cost implications of different construction methods, alternative choices of materials and size and quality of the project to ensure that each element is reconciled with the cost plan allowance and the overall project remains within budget
  • Prepare necessary documents and reports including tender reviews, Bills of Quantities, cost assurance / reports
  • Manage the costs of projects during the construction stage and negotiate final accounts
  • Adhere to Practice procedures concerning quality assurance
  • Follow up business development and network leads in the promotion of Ridge’s services
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members

Experience and Skills Required

  • Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent)
  • NEC contract experience highly desirable
  • MRICS
  • Experience of technically complex projects gained in a consultancy environment.
  • Articulate, capable of establishing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Commercially aware with excellent negotiation and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge and experienced in the use of Microsoft Office packages, CAD and CostX.
  • Proactive and engaging personality
