Senior Sustainability Engineer

Due to our continuing success, Ridge has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Sustainability Engineer to join our Sustainability Team in Reading. The successful candidate will have a real desire to learn, grow and forge a long-term career within an award-winning multi-discipline consultancy. Candidates with less experience who are working towards achieving the seniority level in the near future are encouraged to apply.

 

The team provide a range of sustainability services direct to client organisations, external consultant teams, contractors, as well as to our own Ridge multi-disciplinary project teams.  You will be involved in developing, governing and delivering sustainability strategies from inception, through to hand over for buildings and property portfolios. You will play a key part in the continued growth of our team and should demonstrate a passion to make a difference.

 

You will specialise in sustainable appraisals, carbon modelling and climate change. You will play a key part in the continued growth of the team that spans over a variety of sectors including (but not limited to): schools, university buildings, offices, industrial units, hotels, leisure centres and hospitals.

 

As a senior member of the team your remit will include developing your own clients and workstreams and you will be involved in preparing fee proposals.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Support all areas of Energy and Sustainability consultancy
  • Assist with the modelling of non-domestic buildings via IES VE
  • Assist with energy certificates (EPC, DEC)
  • Carry out SAP/SBEM compliance assessments
  • Carry out risk of overheating assessments (including TM52, Part O)
  • Carry out TM54 assessments
  • Carry out daylight assessments
  • Prepare Energy & Sustainability Statements and Strategies
  • Prepare Decarbonisation assessments
  • Support with energy surveys
  • Provide frequent project updates to clients on progress with sustainability assessments
  • Provide sustainability assessments for construction projects from planning through to completion
  • Develop and improving existing energy strategies
  • BREEAM/SKA/DREAM/WELL/Fitwel Assessments
  • Embodied Carbon / Net Zero assessments
  • Assist with producing technical briefing notes and reports
  • Assist, monitor and provide training to the graduates of the sustainability team
  • Expand the role to encompass wider issues of sustainability pre and post construction

Experience and Skills Required

  • BSc/MSc degree in Sustainability, Energy, Building Services, Architecture or similar
  • Have a genuine passion and interest within the field of Sustainability
  • Understanding of the built environment
  • Very good knowledge level of HVAC systems
  • Relevant experience in a similar role
  • Experience in undertaking SAP/SBEM Calculations
  • SAP or SBEM accreditations are favourable
  • Experience with IES Virtual Environment software
  • Experience in IES VE ApacheHVAC is favourable
  • Good knowledge level of Revit and AutoCAD
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills
  • Brilliant time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Training in BREEAM and other similar sustainability assessment methodologies is favourable
  • Training and experience in OneClick LCA is favourable
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of renewable and LZCT options
  • Experience with planning support documents
  • Full UK driving licence
