Construction Health & Safety Consultant

The Construction Health and Safety Team is an expanding group of technically skilled specialists at Ridge. We specialise in the provision of the fullest range health and safety advice for the construction sector. We work across a range of businesses and in sectors as diverse as commercial, healthcare, science, industry, energy, and education.

 

The role is to work as a member of the team providing construction health and safety services to both internal and external clients.  You will be required to independently deliver construction health and safety services and advice, and to fulfil the role of CDM Advisor/Principal Designer on multiple projects to help ensure compliance with the duties of the CDM regulations 2015.

 

Our services include strategic, tactical, and operational aspects of our clients’ businesses. Our service delivery includes the writing of policies and procedures, carrying out site inspections and audits, writing up project progress reports and engaging directly with clients on a project basis, as well as developing and implementing training programmes.

 

Your role will be a Professional / Senior Construction Health and Safety Consultant delivering these services and, as such, you will be a key member of this close-knit team. Your knowledge and skills will contribute to the growth and success of this developing and growing team as we work together to deliver robust solutions to meet our clients’ health and safety objectives, aims and aspirations.

 

As well as developing your technical skills we train our consultants in account management.  This involves developing your relationship building skills – leading you to becoming a client’s ‘trusted advisor’. 

 

We will also help you develop your commercial skills, so you are able to deliver value driven service to your clients that remain profitable for the business.

 

Role and Responsibilities

You will be required to work on a wide variety of projects, from new build social housing blocks, high rise office fitouts, to infrastructure and specialist projects. Project duration will vary from fast turnaround fitouts to major capital projects.

 

The role includes developing the ability to win work, to network and start to generate a revenue stream as part of the role.

  • Working independently on Medium sized projects, or as part of a team on large projects, to deliver the Principal Designer duty and CDM advisor role
  • Responsible for small to medium sized projects, or key contributor to large ones
  • Independently undertake site inspections and monitoring visits to determine health & safety compliance
  • Independently attend project, design, and other meetings, escalating issues as required by the project plan
  • Ensure output from projects is of a high standard
  • Ability to ensure projects are completed efficiently, to an agreed resource and commercial profile

 

Experience and Skills Required

Projects can be in any location in the UK so a willingness to travel is also required. 

  • Educated to degree level in a construction related field with a preference for a design related degree. Or alternatively, without a degree: relevant, associated, and equivalent practical experience
  • Significant post qualification experience
  • Ability to work on multiple projects
  • An understanding of the design process and the principles of risk reduction
  • A thorough knowledge of the CDM regulations and associated legislation
  • Appropriate experience of the design and construction processes
  • NEBOSH Diploma or similar technical or professional qualification
  • Incorporated or Certified Member of the Association for Project Safety (IMaPS / CMaPS)
  • Graduate membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • A current record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
